Tottenham Hotspur Football Club
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is one of English football’s marquee institutions, based in Tottenham, North London. Universally known as "Spurs" or "The Lilywhites," the club plays its home matches at the world-class Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a state-of-the-art 62,000-plus capacity venue built on the site of their historic former home, White Hart Lane.
Founded in 1882 by a group of schoolboys led by Bobby Buckle, the club was named after Harry Hotspur, the famous medieval Shakespearean warrior. Dressed in their classic navy-and-white kits featuring a cockerel standing upon a football, Tottenham carved out a unique place in history in 1901 by becoming the only non-League club ever to win the FA Cup since the inception of the Football League.
The club’s golden era arrived under manager Bill Nicholson in 1961, when Tottenham became the first English club in the 20th century to complete the League and FA Cup "Double." Two years later, in 1963, Spurs became the first British team to win a major European trophy by lifting the European Cup Winners' Cup, establishing a proud legacy defined by flair, tradition, and attacking style ("To Dare Is To Do").
Tottenham shares one of world football's most fiery and historical local rivalries with neighboring Arsenal, a legendary fixture known globally as the North London Derby.
