RB Leipzig is one of modern European football’s most dynamic and fast-rising powerhouses, based in Leipzig, Saxony. Universally nicknamed "Die Roten Bullen" (The Red Bulls), the club competes at the top level of German football, the Bundesliga, and plays its home matches at the 47,000-capacity Red Bull Arena.
Founded in 2009 by the energy drink company Red Bull GmbH, which acquired the playing rights of fifth-tier SSV Markranstädt, the club traditionally plays in white and red kits. Guided by a clear structural vision spearheaded by architect Ralf Rangnick, RB Leipzig executed a meteoric rise through the German league pyramid, securing four promotions in seven seasons to reach the Bundesliga for the first time in 2016.
Famous for its high-octane pressing, cutting-edge scouting network, and elite player development pipeline, Leipzig immediately established itself as a top-flight titan. In their debut 2016–17 Bundesliga season, they finished as runners-up. The club quickly became a UEFA Champions League regular—reaching the semi-finals in 2020—and captured major silverwares by winning back-to-back DFB-Pokal titles in 2022 and 2023.
Leipzig maintains intense regional rivalries in Eastern Germany, most notably against local neighbors 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Chemie Leipzig, as well as high-stakes modern title clashes against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
