FC Karpaty Lviv
FC Karpaty Lviv is one of Ukraine’s most iconic, culturally distinct, and passionately supported football clubs, based in Lviv, Western Ukraine. Universally known as "Levy" (The Lions) or "Zeleno-Bili" (The Green-Whites), the club plays its home matches at the historic Ukraina Stadium and the modern Arena Lviv.
Founded in 1963, the club traditionally plays in green-and-white striped shirts. Karpaty made history during the Soviet era by achieving an unprecedented feat in 1969: becoming the first and only club in Soviet football history to win the prestigious Soviet Cup while playing in the second division (Soviet First League), defeating SKA Rostov-on-Don in the final.
In independent Ukraine, Karpaty established themselves as a traditional top-flight mainstay, claiming Bronze medals in 1998 and reaching the Ukrainian Cup final twice. Under manager Oleg Kononov in 2010, the Lions captivated European audiences with a thrilling run through the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds, knocking out Galatasaray to reach the group stage. Following a fan-backed rebirth, Karpaty returned to the Ukrainian Premier League in 2024.
Karpaty maintains intense Western Ukrainian regional rivalries, most notably against Volyn Lutsk in the heated Galician-Volhynian Derby, alongside local derby encounters with Rukh Lviv.
