FC Metalist Kharkiv is one of Ukrainian football’s most historic, prominent, and passionately supported clubs, based in Kharkiv, Eastern Ukraine. Universally known as "Zhovto-Syni" (The Yellow-and-Blues) or "Khory" (The Ferrets), the club plays its home matches at the iconic Metalist OSC, a modern UEFA-standard stadium with a capacity of over 40,000.
Founded in 1925 as KhPZ by workers of the Kharkiv Locomotive Factory, the club took the name Metalist in 1967. Dressed in their classic yellow and blue kits, the team established a strong cup tradition during the Soviet era, culminating in their greatest 20th-century triumph when they defeated Torpedo Moscow to lift the Soviet Cup in 1988.
In independent Ukraine, Metalist built a glorious modern golden era under manager Myron Markevych in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Known for their fluid, Latin-infused attacking style, Metalist captured six consecutive Premier League Bronze medals, finished as league runners-up in 2013 to reach the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League in 2012.
Metalist maintains intense regional and national rivalries, most notably one of Ukrainian football's most heated historical encounters against Dnipro, alongside local Kharkiv derby fixtures against Metalist 1925.
