SV Werder Bremen

SV Werder Bremen is one of German football’s most historic and deeply cherished institutions, based in Bremen, northwestern Germany. Universally known as "Die Werderaner" (The River Islanders) or "Die Grün-Weißen" (The Green-Whites), the club competes in the Bundesliga and plays its home matches at the iconic Weserstadion, positioned directly along the banks of the Weser River.

Founded in 1899 as FV Werder Bremen, the club traditionally plays in green and white shirts. Werder established itself as a top-flight fixture upon becoming a founding member of the Bundesliga in 1963, going on to win its first national league championship shortly after in 1965.

The club experienced two legendary golden eras in modern football history. Under iconic manager Otto Rehhagel in the 1980s and 1990s, Werder won two Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals, and captured European silverware by lifting the 1992 European Cup Winners' Cup. A second golden age arrived under Thomas Schaaf, culminating in an extraordinary Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal Double in 2004, driven by a thrilling, high-scoring brand of attacking football.

Werder Bremen maintains one of German football’s most fierce and historical regional rivalries with Hamburger SV, contesting the famous Northern Derby (Nordderby).
